As the second most important item of any serious golfer, shoes should be comfortable and maximize a player’s skills while giving comfort throughout the game. Here’s what the top brands in golf shoes have developed:
Going Lightweight
The latest development in golf shoes is to make them as light as possible while improving gameplay by making them more flexible and re-shape itself with the foot’s movements. This is intended to increase the foot’s reaction to the ground so that the golfer’s energy is entirely focused on his swing.
Nike Golf Shoes
Nike’s contender in the lightweight market is the Lunar Control II, which features a new cushioning system that provides better sense of the ground, comfort and support. The Lunar Control II also features a Flywire technology, which gives it a lighter structure, and Nike Power Platform for better balance and stabilization. Lee Walker, Nike’s product director, says their new series of golf shoes will increase performance in every aspect of the game.
Adidas Golf Shoes
Adidas’ adizero Tour, launched early this year, is headlined by its eponymous model. The adizero is promoted by Singapore’s local pro golfers Quincy Quek, Lam Zhiquin and Koh Sock Hwee. Weighing only 300gms, it’s the lightest of all golf shoe model today, making true of Nike’s tagline: “So light it’s like wearing nothing at all.”
FootJoy Golf Shoes
Not to be outdone, FootJoy has developed its own lightweight shoes as part of its M Project. Taking inspiration from the minimal design of running shoes, models under the M Series have simple exterior, with developments focused on sole structure and ground feel for better comfort and performance.
